SoPo Hoops will adhere to and enforce CDC guidance on Covid-19, we acknowledge that guidance and recommendations are often changing based on newest research and data and feel the best way to meet current health recommendations is to follow the newest CDC updates. Below are the most recent recommendations that SoPo Hoops will follow. All questions or concerns can be emailed directly to the health and safety officer, Jana Grant at janagrant1013@gmail.com.
If you test positive for Covid-19:
Everyone, regardless of vaccination status.
- Stay home for 5 days.
- If you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolving after 5 days, you can leave your house.
- Continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.
If you have a fever, continue to stay home until your fever resolves.
If you are exposed to Covid-19:
For Vaccinated Players (boosted, 2 shot vaccine series within last 6 months or single J&J vaccine in last 2 months)
- Take caution and wear a mask for next 5 days.
- Take a test on day 5.
- If developing symptoms at any time, test immediately and isolate.
For Unvaccinated Players or those whom have completed a 2 shot series more than 6 months ago or a J&J shot more than 2 months ago and are not boosted:
- Stay home for 5 days. After that continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.
- If you can’t quarantine, you must wear a mask for 10 days.
- Test on day 5.
- If develop symptoms at any time, get tested and isolate.

Self-Screening
Athletes are expected to self-screen prior to practices and games using the same protocols for going to school, listed below. They should stay home until symptoms resolve or until getting a negative test.
- Fever, chills
- Cough
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell
- Runny nose/congestion
- Diarrhea
- Body/muscle aches
- Nausea/vomitting
Reporting
- Contact your athlete’s coach if they will not be attending a game or practice due to failing the self-screen.
- Contact your athlete’s coach and the health/safety officer if your child was a close contact and needs to isolate, your child tests positive or you have questions or concerns about whether your child should attend practice or games.
Face Coverings
Coaches and athletes are required to now be wearing face masks always covering both mouth and nose while at any indoor SoPo Hoops event. Fans should follow guidance of each facility and be respectful of requirements.

Face coverings are required for all athletes and coaches regardless of vaccination status.
South Portland Community Center
Face coverings are required for all athletes and coaches regardless of vaccination status.
Maine Basketball Academy/Blue Wave Basketball
Face coverings are required for all athletes and coaches regardless of vaccination status.
Maine Sports Arena
Face coverings are required for all athletes and coaches regardless of vaccination status.
